As part of our 2025/2026 Career Firefighter recruitment, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service is seeking to fill numerous full-time firefighter vacancies.
Firefighters are highly trained professionals, skilled in firefighting, rescue operations, hazardous material training, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents and other specialized services. Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service firefighters have the opportunity to develop their skills in specialty areas including:
- Swift water rescue
- Vehicle rescue
- High-angle rescue
- Hazardous materials response
To be considered for this opportunity, you must possess:
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
- NFPA 1001 Level 2 with Hazmat Operations
- Current First Responder Level 3 license or greater inclusive of Spinal Endorsement and AED. (EMR or PCP Licensing)
- Valid Class 3 B.C. Driver’s Licence with Airbrake endorsement.
- A commitment to volunteerism, community involvement, personal and professional development.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent public relations, team building and organization skills.
The hourly rate of pay is from $37.54 per hour.

AFRS Career Firefighter Hiring Process (2025-2026)
The recruitment process for the Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service has been broken down into eight (8) different stages.
- Stage 1 – Application Accepted
- Stage 2 – Written Exam (November 7-9, 2025 ONLINE)
- Stage 3 – Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) (November 29, 2025)
- Stage 4 – Occupational Skills Assessment Day 1 (November 30, 2025)
- Swim, Beep Test, and Skill Stations (Aerial Climb, 35 ft. ladder raise and Mechanical Aptitude)
- Stage 5 – Occupational Skills Assessment Day 2 (December 13, 2025)
- Interview, Presentation, Skills Stations.
- Stage 6 – Reference Checks, Police Information Checks & Vulnerable Sector Search (December 14, 2025 – January 9, 2026)
- Stage 7 – Pre-Employment Medicals (January 12-28, 2026)
- Stage 8 – Fire Chief Interview (February 5-6, 2026)
All dates are tentative and may be slightly adjusted throughout the process. Please note: due to the volume of applicants, we will be unable to adjust the dates and times of the stages for all candidates.
Estimated Start Date is Spring 2026.
Only successful applicants at each stage will be notified during the process if they will be moving on to the next stage via email. It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure email addresses are valid and up-to-date and computer firewalls/security is set up to accept emails from the City.
