The City of Woodstock is actively recruiting Probationary Firefighters to join its Fire Suppression Division. Woodstock Firefighters play a critical role in emergency response, public education, rescue operations, hazardous materials response, and community safety initiatives.

๐ Firefighters Serving the Community
Woodstock firefighters respond to:
- Structural and residential fires
- Motor vehicle collisions
- Hazardous materials incidents
- Medical emergencies
- Rescue operations
- Public fire safety events and inspections
๐จโ๐ What Youโll Do
As a Woodstock firefighter, your responsibilities will include:
- Performing fire suppression and rescue operations
- Responding within an Incident Management System (IMS)
- Delivering emergency patient care and CPR
- Conducting hazmat and CBRN response operations
- Operating and maintaining fire apparatus and equipment
- Participating in fire prevention inspections
- Supporting public education and community outreach
- Maintaining operational readiness through training and equipment checks
This role requires professionalism, teamwork, physical fitness, and the ability to perform under pressure.
๐ช Firefighter Training & Fitness
Firefighters must be prepared to:
- Work 24-hour rotating shifts
- Operate in smoke, heat, confined spaces, and hazardous conditions
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, climbing, carrying hose lines, and rescue operations
- Maintain high standards of fitness and emergency readiness
โ Minimum Qualifications
To apply for this Ontario firefighter job, candidates must have:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
- Valid Ontario DZ Driverโs Licence
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II Certifications (IFSAC or Pro Board accredited)
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR Level C (or higher)
- Valid Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI) Stage One & Stage Two certificates
- Ability to pass Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector screening
- Ability to meet firefighter physical demands and medical standards
โญ Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
The following experience and certifications are considered assets:
- Emergency Medical Care Assistant (EMCA)
- Trade certification or skilled trades experience
- Fire prevention or emergency services experience
- Military or large vehicle operation experience
- Community volunteer involvement
- Instructor-level First Aid/CPR certifications
- Administrative and computer skills
