With more than 850 staff, 20 fire halls, multiple fire prevention offices, and a dedicated training facility, VFRS provides fire suppression, pre-hospital care, hazardous materials response, marine rescue, technical rescue, and extensive public safety education to the people of Vancouver.

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered.

Education Requirements

High school diploma or GED
-
Upload digital transcripts at time of application

Provide sealed original transcripts at interview

International transcripts may require Canadian accreditation and notarized English translation
Work Experience or Education

Minimum 2 years combined post-secondary education or work experience after high school
Licensing & Driving Requirements
Driver’s License

Valid BC Class 3 with air brake endorsement (or equivalent Canadian licence)
-
Out-of-province applicants must convert to a BC Class 3 licence before employment start date
Driving Record Requirements
Submit documents dated within 7 days of applying:

N-Print Commercial Driver’s Abstract

Insurance & Claims History Record
Applications may be rejected for:

DUI in last 5 years
-
More than 7 points on abstract
-
24-hour roadside prohibition within 2 years
Emergency Medical Certification – Mandatory
Applicants must hold a valid BC EMA Licence in one of the following levels:
-
First Responder (FR)
-
EMR
-
PCP
-
ACP
-
CCP
-
ITT
A letter of good standing from EMALB is required.
Successful candidates must maintain EMR certification throughout employment.
NFPA Certification Requirements

Completion of NFPA 1001 Level I & II
-
Must include IFSAC or ProBoard seals
Criminal Record Check
Applicants must have:

No job-related conviction without a pardon
-
Will submit a Police Information Check with vulnerable sector screening later in the process
Medical Requirements – NFPA 1582
Applicants must meet the medical standards outlined in NFPA 1582, Chapter 6 during the pre-employment medical assessment.
