🔥 Firefighter Responsibilities
Successful candidates can expect to:
- Respond to structure fires and emergency incidents
- Perform rescue and life-saving operations
- Provide emergency medical care and CPR
- Participate in fire prevention inspections
- Conduct public education programs
- Operate firefighting equipment safely
- Maintain firefighting apparatus and equipment
- Complete station maintenance duties
- Participate in ongoing firefighter training
- Work effectively within a team environment
✅ Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II (IFSAC or Pro Board certified)
- Valid Firefighter Services of Ontario (FSO) Certificate (all six tests completed in one day after September 27, 2025)
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
- Valid Ontario Class D Driver’s Licence with Z Endorsement
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong work ethic and commitment to public service
- Ability to successfully complete all recruitment requirements
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check upon conditional offer
⭐ Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are considered strong assets:
- 🚒 NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator
- 🎓 University Degree
- 🎓 College Diploma
- 🔧 Skilled Trades Certification
- 🚑 AEMCA Designation
- 🚒 Career or Volunteer Firefighter experience
- ❤️ Community volunteer experience
- 🏗 Construction or mechanical experience
- 🚑 Emergency Medical Services experience
- 🚛 Large vehicle operation experience
- 🔥 Fire prevention experience
📝 Firefighter Recruitment Process
Applicants will complete the Firefighter Services of Ontario Screening, including:
- Clinical Assessment
- CPS Firefighter Aptitude Test
- Medical Examination
- Vision & Hearing Assessment
- Tread Water Test
- Acrophobia Test
- CPAT
- Emotional Stability & Resiliency Assessment
Applicants who have previously completed eligible FSO testing may only be required to complete expired components.
