Firefighter/EMRs are responsible for fire suppression, emergency medical response, rescue operations, hazardous materials response, wildfire support, fire prevention, and public education initiatives. π° Salary, Benefits & Northern Incentives
The City of Thompson offers a competitive compensation package designed to support emergency responders working in a northern and remote community.
- π΅ Salary Range: $79,956.24 β $114,834.72 annually
- β±οΈ Hourly Wage: $36.61/hour
- ποΈ Annual Retention Allowance: $11,000
- π Bi-weekly Remoteness Allowance
- π©Ί Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and pension benefits
- β³ Overtime and shift premiums under IAFF Local 2200 agreement
- π Structured wage progression to First-Class Firefighter/EMR within 24 months
π¨ Key Responsibilities
- π₯ Respond to fires, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and medical emergencies
- π Provide emergency medical care at the EMR level
- π² Assist with wildfire prevention, mitigation, and suppression
- π Operate and maintain firefighting apparatus and ambulances
- π Complete reports, documentation, and administrative duties
- π Participate in ongoing firefighter and EMS training programs
β Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- π High School Diploma or equivalent
- π Current Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification recognized in Manitoba
- π NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II
- π Valid Manitoba Class 4 Driverβs Licence with air brake endorsement
- π Vulnerable Sector Check and Child/Adult Abuse Registry Checks
- πͺ Ability to pass medical, hearing, vision, and fitness standards
- π€ Strong communication and teamwork skills
β Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates with:
- π₯ NFPA 1035 Fire & Life Safety Educator
- π’ NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector certification
- π¨ Previous firefighting or EMS experience
- π² Wildland firefighting experience
- π§ Mechanical or emergency services background
