Qualifications for applying to be a Firefighter / Medic

You must meet the following minimum qualifications on the date you submit your application:

  • Currently registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) or currently enrolled as a 2nd year Advanced Care Paramedic student. Preference may be given to those eligible to write the Advanced Care Paramedic Provincial Registration Examination in 2022.
  • Hold a valid Alberta Class 4 driver’s licence and can provide a driver’s abstract demonstrating safe driving behaviour [six demerits or fewer].
  • Able to obtain, and maintain, a clear vulnerable sector police information check (required upon offer).
  • Able to pass physical and medical standards, including eyesight and audible, as outlined in the NFPA standard.  

NOTE
A valid Alberta Class 3 driver’s licence and Air Brake (Q) endorsement are conditions of employment that must be obtained within the probationary period.
Out of province applicant pursuing a labour mobility application must be fully registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics as an Advanced Care Paramedic by the date of the panel interviews (approximately December 2022)

• connect directly with and ask questions of the recruitment committee and current Firefighter/Medics

Dates: Attend on Tuesday, September 27th or Thursday, September 29th
Time: both sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Station Assessment – Tuesday, October 25 and Thursday, October 27 2022
Short-listed candidates will be invited to attend one of the two full day sessions that will include Firefighter Aptitude, Medical Knowledge/OSCE and Job Skills assessments.

Time: Approximately 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

University of Albert Firefighter Fitness Test – Mid to Late November, 2022
