Schedule: 24-hour rotating shifts (42 hours/week)

π₯ Firefighter Duties & Responsibilities
Emergency Response
- Respond to fires, rescues, and medical emergencies
- Provide patient care, CPR, and defibrillation
- Perform search and rescue operations
Fire Suppression
- Deploy hose lines and operate firefighting equipment
- Conduct pump operations and use specialized tools
Specialized Rescue Operations
- Vehicle extrication
- Hazardous materials response
- Rope, trench, confined space, and water/ice rescue
Fire Prevention & Public Education
- Conduct inspections and safety assessments
- Deliver fire safety education programs
Equipment & Station Duties
- Maintain apparatus, equipment, and facilities
- Participate in ongoing training and development

Firefighters with Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services operate in:

β Minimum Qualifications
Required Certifications
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II (Pro Board or IFSAC)
- NFPA 1072 (or 472) Hazardous Materials Awareness/Operations
Education & Licensing
- Minimum 18 years old
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Valid Ontario Class βDβ Driverβs Licence with βZβ endorsement
Medical & Safety Requirements
- Standard First Aid & CPR βCβ (or BLS/HCP or higher)
- Pass NFPA 1582 medical standards
- Strong vision, hearing, and swimming ability
- Pass fitness testing and swim assessment
Background Requirements
- Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Clean driving record
π Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
Candidates with the following will be highly competitive:
- Post-secondary education
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification
- Firefighter or emergency services experience
- Skilled trades experience
- Technical rescue certifications (NFPA 1006)
- Lifeguard certification (NLS)
- Second language proficiency
- Military or Coast Guard experience
- Community service or volunteer experience
