🚒 London Fire Department Hiring 15 Probationary Firefighters (2026)
The City of London Fire Department is accepting applications for 15 Full-Time Permanent Probationary Firefighters. This is an excellent opportunity to join one of Ontario’s largest municipal fire services and build a rewarding career in emergency response, technical rescue, fire prevention, and public education.
As a probationary firefighter, you’ll respond to fires, motor vehicle collisions, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and technical rescues while serving one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities.

Salary
Successful applicants begin at 60% of the First-Class Firefighter wage (5th Class) with opportunities for progression according to the collective agreement.
Firefighter Responsibilities
London Firefighters are responsible for:
- Responding to structure fires, vehicle fires, rescues, and emergency incidents
- Providing emergency medical care, CPR, first aid, and AED assistance
- Performing vehicle extrication and technical rescue operations
- Participating in Ice & Water Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, and Trench Rescue teams
- Conducting fire prevention, inspections, and public education programs
- Maintaining fire apparatus, equipment, and station facilities
- Assisting with firefighter training and ongoing professional development
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- ✅ Grade 12 Diploma (or equivalent)
- ✅ NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I (IFSAC or ProBoard)
- ✅ NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level II (IFSAC or ProBoard)
- ✅ NFPA 1072 (or NFPA 472) Hazardous Materials Awareness
- ✅ NFPA 1072 (or NFPA 472) Hazardous Materials Operations
- ✅ Valid Ontario Class D Driver’s Licence with Z Air Brake Endorsement
- ✅ Current First Aid, CPR & AED Certification
- ✅ Valid OFAI Candidate Testing Services (Stages 1, 2 & 3)
- ✅ Driver’s Abstract
- ✅ Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (required later in recruitment)
Assets include:
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
- OFAI Swim Test
- Additional IFSAC/ProBoard Certifications
