Position Summary
Reporting to the Platoon Chief, the Firefighter is a first responder who routinely responds to and works at incidents such as, but not limited to, fires, medical incidents, motor vehicle collisions, alarm calls, hazardous materials spills or leaks, water incidents, technical rescues, and rail incidents. A Firefighter is assigned to a Platoon and is responsible for the professional delivery of services and duties.
The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department is housed with the Ambulance Service in a modern facility with excellent equipment and apparatus. The Department is a vital component of the Protective Services Section of the City, together with our mutual aid partners contributes to the safety and quality of life in our community. The Fort Saskatchewan Fire Department is a proud member of the Northeast Region Community Awareness Emergency Response (N.R. CAER) Organization.
The City of Fort Saskatchewan Firefighters will respond to fire and emergency calls and participate in educating the community in various aspects of emergency safety. The Firefighter is responsible for completing duties as assigned to support the implementation of effective, efficient, and ethical departmental procedures, and to meet the customer service goals and objectives of the Fire Department.

• Fire Inspections / Preplanning
• Public Relations and Fire Safety Education
• Station and equipment checks
Qualifications
A valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator’s License is required, Q endorsement would be an asset. The successful candidate will be in good physical condition and able to meet the physical and medical requirements of the position. Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age; have a High School Diploma, previous firefighting experience, and must have the following qualifications:
• NFPA 1001 – Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, Level I
• NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, Level 2
• NFPA 1072 – Hazmat Awareness & Operations
• Standard First Aid, CPR level C – AED certifications
• ICS 100
Assets include:
• ICS 200
• NFPA 1002 – Pumping Operations
• NFPA 1002 – Driving & Maintenance
• NFPA 1002 – Aerial Operator
• Class 3.4 Driver’s License and Q endorsement
• MFR or Advanced First Aid
• Safety Codes
The successful candidate will be able to pass the following recruitment process:
1. Written Aptitude Test
2. Interview
3. Medical Assessment
4. Physical Assessment

Hours of Work: Rotating Day (10-hour shifts) and Night (14-hour shifts) Schedule
