The City of Thompson Fire and Emergency Services is hiring Firefighter / Primary Care Paramedics (PCP) to join its emergency response team serving Manitobaβs fourth-largest city. This full-time role combines advanced pre-hospital care with fire suppression, rescue operations, and hazardous materials response in a fast-paced northern emergency services environment. ππ₯βοΈ
Firefighter/PCPs respond to medical emergencies at the PCP level, structure fires, technical rescues, wildland fires, and public safety incidents while supporting prevention, education, and community risk reduction programs.

- π΅ $82,183.92 β $117,084.24 annual salary
- β±οΈ $37.63/hour
- ποΈ $11,000 annual retention allowance

π¨ Key Responsibilities
- π Respond to medical emergencies at the PCP level
- π₯ Perform fire suppression and rescue operations
- π² Assist in wildfire prevention, mitigation, and suppression
- π Operate and maintain fire apparatus and ambulances
- π Complete reports, documentation, and incident records
- π Participate in ongoing firefighter and paramedic training
- π Support public education and fire prevention programs
β Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- π Post-secondary education or equivalent certification
- π Valid PCP License (College of Paramedics / COPR certification)
- π NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II
- π Valid Class 4 Manitoba Driverβs Licence with air brakes
- π Vulnerable Sector & Child/Adult Abuse Registry Checks
- πͺ Ability to pass medical, fitness, vision, and hearing standards
- π£οΈ Strong communication and teamwork skills
- β° Ability to work shifts (days, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call)
β Preferred Qualifications
- π₯ NFPA 1035 Fire & Life Safety Educator
- π’ NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector
- π Advanced EMS or additional clinical experience
- π Previous firefighting or paramedic field experience
- π² Wildland or technical rescue experience
