🔥 Firefighter Responsibilities

As a Firefighter with the Town of Gander, you will:

🚒 Respond to structure fires and emergency incidents

🚗 Perform motor vehicle rescue operations

✈️ Provide mutual aid to Gander International Airport, 9 Wing Gander, neighbouring fire departments, and emergency services

📞 Receive, dispatch, and respond to emergency calls

🧯 Operate and maintain firefighting apparatus and rescue equipment

🏢 Conduct fire inspections and maintain pre-incident plans

🔥 Inspect and test hoses, ladders, SCBA, fire extinguishers, ropes, and other equipment to NFPA standards

📚 Deliver public fire prevention education and station tours

🛠 Perform station, equipment, and vehicle maintenance

💪 Participate in ongoing firefighter training and volunteer training programs

✅ Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

✔ High School Diploma (or equivalent)

✔ NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I Certification

✔ Eligibility to obtain Firefighter Level II within one year of hire

✔ Advanced First Aid for Firefighters

✔ CPR, AED & Oxygen Certification

✔ Valid Newfoundland & Labrador Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement

✔ Clean 5-Year Driver’s Abstract

✔ Medical Clearance

✔ Criminal Record Check (RCMP)

✔ Provincial Court Check

✔ Excellent communication skills

✔ Physical and medical fitness for firefighting duties

✔ Microsoft Office 365 proficiency
