Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements to be considered:
✔ Legal Entitlement to Work in Canada
Submit one of the following:

Canadian Birth Certificate

Canadian Passport

Permanent Resident Card

Landed Immigrant Card
✔ NFPA 1001 Level I & II Certification
Must be from an approved Pro Board or IFSAC accredited program.
✔ High School Graduation or Equivalent
✔ Valid BC Class 3 Driver’s Licence + Air Brake Endorsement
Applications without the Air Brake endorsement are accepted at submission, but proof is required by Stage 3 (Interview Stage).
✔ Driver’s Abstract (5 Years)

Must be dated within 15 days of your application

Safe, responsible driving required

More than 6 points may remove you from the process
✔ BC Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Licence or Higher
(PCP/ACP accepted)
Proof required by Stage 3 if not submitted initially.
✔ NFPA 472 Operations Level Certification
✔ Community Volunteer Experience
✔ Physically & Medically Fit – NFPA 1582 Standard
Including:

Normal colour vision & peripheral vision

20/30 corrected binocular vision
-
20/100 uncorrected binocular vision or better
-
Normal hearing without aids
✔ No Criminal Convictions Related to Firefighter Duties
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants with one or more of the following will be considered stronger candidates:
Advanced Fire & Rescue Training

NFPA 472/1072 Technician Level
-
NFPA 1006 Technical Rescue (Rope, Confined Space, Auto Extrication, Swift Water)

Wildland Firefighting Certification
-
Additional fire service courses or programs
Related Emergency Services Experience

Police, Coast Guard, EMS, Military, Search & Rescue
-
Fire-related volunteer experience
-
Work experience programs
Practical, Transferable Skills
-
Construction, trades, heavy equipment operation
-
Truck driving (Class 1, 2, or 3)
-
Coaching, teaching, instructional experience
Other Preferred Assets

Fluency in additional languages

Lifesaving Society certifications (Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, NLS)
