We are accepting applications for the Firefighter Applicant Intake from November 1 – 30, 2022. The process is long and intensive and consists of ten steps including an aptitude test, interview, polygraph examination, and physical fitness testing, most of which will take place in Calgary. Accommodations are available during the hiring process, upon request on a case by case basis. Successfully completing all ten steps in the process does not ensure receipt of a job offer; only the most suitable candidates will be selected.
The goal of the Firefighter Applicant Intake is to identify candidates for our Eligibility List, where they will remain at the discretion of the Fire Chief, until they are presented with a Conditional Job Offer and invited to attend a recruit training class. The job offer will contain a number of conditions that candidates must successfully complete.
Once hired, recruits will attend The Fire Training Academy. Upon graduation from the Academy, recruits will be assigned to fire stations for on-the-job training for the remainder of their probationary period. Those who successfully complete the probationary period, including all training and examinations, will become permanent firefighters with The City of Calgary.
If you are interested in applying for the Probationary Firefighter Applicant Intake, please ensure you meet the required minimum qualifications before you apply. Applicants will be asked to provide proof of all qualifications.
We would like to thank everyone for their application; however, only those applicants who are being considered will be asked to move on to the next step in the process.
Collection, use, and retention of personal information will be used in accordance with relevant privacy legislation.
