The Firefighter/Paramedic works as part of the emergency services team responding to fires, medical emergencies, rescues and other emergency and non-emergency incidents throughout Brandon and surrounding areas.

🚒 Firefighter/Paramedic Job Responsibilities

Firefighter/Paramedics with the City of Brandon may be responsible for:

  • Responding to structure fires, alarms and other fire emergencies.
  • Performing fire suppression, ventilation, search and rescue, overhaul and salvage operations.
  • Providing emergency medical care at the Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) level.
  • Responding to emergency medical calls and providing patient assessment and treatment.
  • Providing medical care and assessment within the Brandon Police Services Detention Unit.
  • Receiving emergency and business calls and assisting with dispatching personnel and equipment.
  • Participating in in-house and external firefighter and emergency services training.
  • Maintaining emergency service records, reports and required documentation.
  • Operating, cleaning and maintaining fire apparatus, rescue equipment and ambulance vehicles.
  • Maintaining personal protective equipment and other emergency response equipment.
  • Performing fire prevention and public fire education duties.
  • Performing station housekeeping and routine maintenance.
  • Carrying out other duties assigned by the department.

🎓 Brandon Firefighter/Paramedic Qualifications

Applicants must meet the mandatory education, certification and licensing requirements for the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Grade 12, GED or Mature High School Diploma.
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighting Practices Level 1 and Level 2 – accredited version.
  • Primary Care Paramedic (PCP).
  • Rescue Practices.
  • NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus/Driver Operator.
  • NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness.
  • NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Operations.
  • NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator.
  • Certificate in the Public Fire Paramedic Program or an approved equivalency.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 4 driver’s licence with Air endorsement.
  • Current College of Paramedics of Manitoba Certificate of Practice.

🚑 Firefighter/Paramedic Work Environment

The Brandon Firefighter/Paramedic position requires employees to work effectively as part of an emergency services team. Firefighters may be required to work in:

  • Extreme weather conditions.

  • High-noise environments.
  • Areas with unpleasant or hazardous odours.

Employees must be prepared to work varying shifts, overtime and emergency call-outs when required.
