๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’ What Youโ€™ll Do (Firefighter Duties)

As a firefighter with AFD, you will:

  • Respond to fire, rescue, and emergency medical incidents

  • Deliver medical co-response as a PCP or ACP
  • Conduct fire inspections, pre-plans, and prevention activities
  • Maintain firefighting apparatus, PPE, and station readiness

โœ… Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II Certification (IFSAC or Pro Board)
  • NFPA 472 or 1072 Hazardous Materials โ€“ Operations Level
  • Valid Class 1, 2, or 3 Driverโ€™s Licence with Air Brake (Q) Endorsement
  • Current Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) or Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) licence
    (Registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics or eligible for equivalency)
  • Strong ability to work in high-pressure emergency situations
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills

โญ Preferred Qualifications (Assets)

Candidates with the following will stand out:

  • Post-secondary education (Fire Services, EMS, or related field)
  • Experience in firefighting or emergency services
  • Safety Codes Officer certification
  • Technical rescue training (rope, confined space, trench)
  • Leadership or community service experience

Candidates must complete one of the following:

  • University of Alberta Firefighter Fitness Test
  • Red Deer Polytechnic
  • Candidate Physical Ability Test
