🔥 Minimum Firefighter Qualifications (Must Be Met to Apply)

All applications will be screened to confirm the following requirements:

1. Education

• Proof of Grade 12 or equivalent.

2. Firefighter Certifications

• NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level II
  (with IFSAC or Pro Board seals)

3. Driving Requirements

• Current driver’s abstract (dated within 60 days)
  Must show safe, responsible driving.
  The following will result in automatic disqualification:

  • Any DUI within the last 5 years

  • More than 6 points on abstract

  • 24-hour roadside prohibition within the last 2 years

• Valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement
  (or acceptable Canadian equivalent; automatic transmission accepted)

4. Criminal Record Screening

• Must provide Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  (dated within 6 months)

Applicants must have no criminal charges or convictions related to firefighter duties unless pardoned. Full honesty and disclosure are required.

5. Medical Certifications

• BC EMALB First Responder Level III (minimum)

6. Legal Entitlement to Work in Canada

Provide ONE of the following:

• Canadian birth certificate

• Canadian passport

• Permanent Resident Card

7. Vision & Hearing Requirements (NFPA 1582 Chapter 6)

Applicants must meet the following:

• Colour vision safe

• 20/30 corrected binocular vision

• 20/100 uncorrected binocular vision or better

• Normal hearing (without hearing aids)

These will be assessed during medical screening.

🔥 Additional Required Qualifications (Firefighter–Mechanic Applicants Only)

Candidates applying for the combined Firefighter–Mechanic role must also have:

• BC or Inter-Provincial Red Seal Heavy Duty or Commercial Transport Mechanic certification

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a journeyman mechanic

• Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate or provincial equivalent

• Preferred: Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certificate of Qualification
