Located next to downtown Victoria, the Township of Esquimalt, with a population of over 17,000, is home to Canada’s Pacific Naval Fleet. The community boasts extensive amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways as well as modern recreational facilities, schools and commercial services.

Esquimalt Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) is currently creating an eligibility pool for future firefighter vacancies.

We are looking for suitably qualified and dynamic people – our ideal candidates will be committed community members who demonstrate a lifestyle that is active and healthy and who display a passion for health and wellness, both physically and mentally.

Below is a summary of the minimum qualifications to apply:

•    Legally entitled to work in Canada;
•    Be at least 19 years of age;
•    Grade 12 Certificate or GED equivalency;
•    Class 3 driver’s licence and air brake endorsement;
•    Safe driving record as demonstrated in a current driver’s abstract;
•    Equivalent to First Responder 3 or Occupational First Aid Level 3;
•    Computer literacy;
•    Proven ability to work in a team environment;
•    History of ongoing volunteer and community service experience;
•    Physically fit for the position of firefighter and medically fit according to the standards set in NFPA 1582; and,
•    Completion of an accredited (IFSAC or ProBoard) NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 & 2 program.

Preferred qualifications:

•    Post secondary education
•    Trades qualification
•    Experience or education in health and wellness

•    Completed application form;

•    Driver’s license abstract (dated within 30 days of date of application);

•    Class 3 driver’s licence with air endorsement; and,

If your application is being considered for the eligibility list you will, at a later date, be asked to submit or undergo the following:

•    Police information check for the vulnerable sector (dated within six months of the request for the check);

•    Firefighter Medical Examination Certificate for BC (dated with 12 months of the request for the certificate);

•    Physical fitness assessment;

•    Copy of eye examination (dated within 12 months of the request); and,

•    Copy of hearing examination/audiogram (dated within 12 months of the request);

Wages and benefits are as outlined in the IAFF Collective Agreement.

Residency Restriction:

EFRS maintains a residency requirement within their collective agreement. As a condition of employment, all new hires, within one year of date of hire, shall be required to reside within the residence requirements.
