Firefighter Responsibilities

Successful recruits will work under the supervision of Company Officers and perform a wide variety of emergency and community safety duties including:

• 🚒 Fire suppression and structural firefighting
• 🚑 Medical first response and CPR
• 🛠 Rescue operations
• 🔥 Fire prevention inspections
• 👨‍🏫 Public fire safety education
• 🚒 Operation of fire apparatus and emergency equipment
• 🔧 Inspection, maintenance and testing of firefighting equipment
• 🏢 Station maintenance and operational readiness
• 👥 Working effectively within a professional emergency response team

Firefighters must be prepared to work in hazardous environments while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and public service.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess the following before applying:

✅ Legally entitled to work in Canada

✅ Grade 12 Diploma (or equivalent)

✅ NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II

• IFSAC or Pro Board certification (or proof of grandfathering)

✅ NFPA 472, NFPA 1072 or NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials Operations Certification

✅ Valid First Aid and CPR Level C

✅ Valid Ontario DZ Driver’s Licence with Air Brake (Z Endorsement)

✅ Strong English communication skills

✅ Ability to work 24-hour rotating shifts

✅ Current Vulnerable Sector Check (required prior to employment)

Selected candidates must also successfully complete practical skill testing during the recruitment process.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates may receive additional consideration if they possess:

• Career or Volunteer Firefighter experience
• Fire Service College Diploma
• Skilled trade certification
• Paramedic or Nursing experience
• Community volunteer experience
• Additional emergency services experience
• Other relevant NFPA certifications

Community involvement and volunteerism are considered valuable assets during the hiring process.
