🔥 Firefighter Duties & Responsibilities

As a Probationary Firefighter with the City of Guelph, you will:

🚒 Respond to structural fires and emergency incidents

🚑 Provide emergency medical response and first aid

🚗 Perform vehicle extrication and technical rescue operations

🌊 Respond to water, ice, confined space and hazardous materials incidents

👮 Work alongside police, paramedics and emergency partners

🛠 Maintain fire apparatus, equipment and fire stations

📞 Assist with emergency dispatch duties when required

🏫 Participate in public education, inspections and fire prevention initiatives

💪 Attend regular firefighter training and maintain operational readiness


✅ Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

✔ Grade 12 Diploma (or equivalent)

✔ NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II Certification

✔ NFPA 472 or NFPA 1072 Certification

✔ Current CPR Basic Life Support (BLS)

✔ Valid First Responder Certification (minimum)

✔ Valid Ontario DZ Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent)

✔ Successful completion of all three stages of the OFAI Candidate Testing Services

✔ Minimum 18 years of age

✔ Legally entitled to work in Canada

✔ Strong communication and teamwork skills

✔ Ability to work safely in physically demanding emergency environments

✔ Basic Microsoft Office skills
