Firefighter Job Responsibilities
As a Firefighter with YVR Fire & Rescue, you will:
🔥 Respond to aircraft emergencies and airport incidents
🚑 Provide emergency medical first response services
☣️ Respond to hazardous materials emergencies
✈️ Conduct airside inspections and airport safety operations
❄️ Support winter operations including snow and ice management
🚒 Operate firefighting apparatus and specialized rescue equipment
📋 Participate in emergency preparedness training and drills
🛡️ Maintain operational readiness and safety standards
👨🚒 Promote emergency preparedness and public safety initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
✔ High School Diploma or GED equivalent
✔ NFPA 1001 Level II Certification
✔ Emergency Medical Assistant First Responder Certification
✔ Valid BC Class 3 Driver’s Licence or equivalent
✔ Ability to obtain Air Brake Endorsement within three months
✔ Strong communication and teamwork skills
✔ Ability to work effectively under pressure
✔ Successful completion of a firefighter medical assessment meeting NFPA 1582 standards
✔ Ability to obtain and maintain all required security clearances
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are considered assets:
⭐ Airport Firefighter or ARFF experience
⭐ Emergency response experience
⭐ Hazardous Materials training
⭐ Advanced medical certifications
⭐ French language proficiency
⭐ Experience operating emergency vehicles and specialized rescue equipment
Residency Requirements
Due to the emergency response nature of this position, firefighters must reside within approved communities surrounding Vancouver International Airport, including Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Surrey, Delta, Langley, Coquitlam, Abbotsford, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Port Moody, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, White Rock, and surrounding areas.
