The Government of Yukon is hiring Airport Firefighters for anticipatory permanent and auxiliary on-call positions at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in airport emergency response, aircraft rescue firefighting (ARFF), structural firefighting, emergency medical response, and airport safety operations in one of Canadaβs most unique and rewarding environments.

- Employment Type: Auxiliary On-Call
- Hours: 84 hours bi-weekly
- Salary: $33.91 β $39.26 per hour

βοΈπ¨ Airport Firefighter Responsibilities
As a Yukon Airport Firefighter, you will:
β
Respond to aircraft emergencies and airport fire rescue incidents
β
Perform structural firefighting and fire suppression operations
β
Operate rescue firefighting vehicles and specialized ARFF equipment
β
Conduct emergency medical response and first aid treatment
β
Support airport safety, fire prevention, and emergency preparedness programs
β
Utilize SCBA, PPE, and emergency communications systems
β
Participate in airport emergency response training and fitness evaluations
β
Work in dynamic and high-pressure emergency environments
β Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- NFPA 1001 Level 1 Structural Firefighter Certification (or equivalent)
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR/AED with BLS and O2 Airway Management
- Experience operating firefighting vehicles and rescue equipment
- Experience with PPE and SCBA
- Experience with Incident Command and emergency communications
- Structural firefighting experience
- Valid Class 3 Driverβs Licence with Air Brake Endorsement
- Ability to obtain:
- Transportation Security Clearance (TSC)
- Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (AVOP)
- ROC-A Radio Certificate
- Valid passport or equivalent travel documents

Preferred candidates may also have:
- Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) experience
- Airport emergency response experience
- Strong emergency medical skills
- Hazardous materials training
- Team leadership experience
- High adaptability in remote and challenging environments
