Town of Truro Firefighter Engineer β Permanent Full-Time (IAFF Local 1627)
The Town of Truro is now accepting applications for a Permanent Full-Time Firefighter/Engineer with Truro Fire Service. This unionized position is governed by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Local 1627 Collective Agreement.

π Position Overview
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Firefighter/Engineer is responsible for:

Operating fire apparatus and pump systems

Performing fire suppression and rescue operations
-
Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls
-
Conducting fire prevention inspections
-
Participating in public fire safety education
-
Maintaining firefighting equipment and facilities
-
Completing reports and incident documentation
This role requires rapid decision-making, physical endurance, and the ability to work within a structured chain of command.
π° Salary
Salary is in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Town of Truro and IAFF Local 1627.
β Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have:

High School Diploma or equivalent
-
NFPA 1001 Level I Certification (or equivalent)
-
Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C
-
Class 3 Nova Scotia Driverβs License with Air Brake Endorsement
-
Physical fitness meeting firefighter standards (medical required)
-
Legal entitlement to work in Canada
-
Clear driving abstract
-
Criminal Record Check
Experience working with diverse communities or knowledge of cultural safety practices is considered an asset.

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of:

Firefighting tactics and strategy

Relevant legislation including:

Rotating shifts, including call-back
