The City of Richmond is seeking highly motivated individuals to join Richmond Fire-Rescue as Firefighter Recruits. This is an exciting opportunity to serve one of Canada’s most livable and diverse communities while building a professional firefighting career.

Firefighter Recruits perform skilled firefighting duties including fire suppression, rescue services, medical response, fire prevention education, apparatus operation, and equipment maintenance.


πŸ”₯ Key Responsibilities

πŸ– Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, motor vehicle incidents & rescue calls
πŸ– Perform fire suppression and search & rescue
πŸ– Assess patients and administer first aid
πŸ– Operate and drive fire apparatus
πŸ– Conduct fire safety education and community outreach
πŸ– Participate in training, drills & skill development
πŸ– Maintain equipment, vehicles & fire halls


βœ… Required Qualifications

βœ” Grade 12 Diploma (or equivalent)
βœ” Legally entitled to work in Canada
βœ” NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II
βœ” First Responder Level 3 (or equivalent)
βœ” Valid BC Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brakes
βœ” 5-year safe Driver’s Record
βœ” Minimum 1 year work experience (1,820 hours)
βœ” Successful completion of Richmond Physical Test (Fitness York Test)
βœ” Swim Test (100m continuous front crawl + 5 min tread)
βœ” NFPA 1582 medical clearance
βœ” Clear Police Information Check


⭐ Assets (Preferred Qualifications)

βœ” Work experience in paramedic, fire, military, coast guard, SAR, or emergency services
βœ” Post-secondary education or apprenticeship
βœ” Technical rescue training (water, rope, confined space, hazmat, wildland, ARFF, etc.)
βœ” Life Saving Society Bronze Star or higher
βœ” Volunteer experience
βœ” Multilingual proficiency
βœ” Strong understanding of diverse cultures
βœ” Demonstrated commitment to fitness & wellness
