The City of Richmond is seeking highly motivated individuals to join Richmond Fire-Rescue as Firefighter Recruits. This is an exciting opportunity to serve one of Canadaβs most livable and diverse communities while building a professional firefighting career.
Firefighter Recruits perform skilled firefighting duties including fire suppression, rescue services, medical response, fire prevention education, apparatus operation, and equipment maintenance.
π₯ Key Responsibilities
π Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, motor vehicle incidents & rescue calls
π Perform fire suppression and search & rescue
π Assess patients and administer first aid
π Operate and drive fire apparatus
π Conduct fire safety education and community outreach
π Participate in training, drills & skill development
π Maintain equipment, vehicles & fire halls
β Required Qualifications
β Grade 12 Diploma (or equivalent)
β Legally entitled to work in Canada
β NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II
β First Responder Level 3 (or equivalent)
β Valid BC Class 3 Driverβs Licence with Air Brakes
β 5-year safe Driverβs Record
β Minimum 1 year work experience (1,820 hours)
β Successful completion of Richmond Physical Test (Fitness York Test)
β Swim Test (100m continuous front crawl + 5 min tread)
β NFPA 1582 medical clearance
β Clear Police Information Check
β Assets (Preferred Qualifications)
β Work experience in paramedic, fire, military, coast guard, SAR, or emergency services
β Post-secondary education or apprenticeship
β Technical rescue training (water, rope, confined space, hazmat, wildland, ARFF, etc.)
β Life Saving Society Bronze Star or higher
β Volunteer experience
β Multilingual proficiency
β Strong understanding of diverse cultures
β Demonstrated commitment to fitness & wellness
