Regional Deputy Fire Chief – Legacy Regional Protective Services

Regional Deputy Fire Chief opportunities are now available with Legacy Regional Protective Services, offering senior fire service leadership across participating Saskatchewan municipalities. This role provides operational oversight, emergency management coordination, and command leadership in alignment with provincial legislation and Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) standards.

Stationed at Station 1 in Lloydminster, this position serves communities including the Town of Marshall, Town of Lashburn, and the RM of Wilton.


Regional Deputy Fire Chief – Position Overview

The Regional Deputy Fire Chief provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure continuous emergency response readiness. Reporting directly to the Regional Fire Chief, this position plays a critical role in regional interoperability, emergency preparedness, and community resilience.

This leadership role supports fire suppression, rescue operations, medical response support, hazardous materials incidents, and emergency management within a regional framework.


Leadership & Fire Service Governance

As a senior fire officer, the Regional Deputy Fire Chief will:

  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical leadership

  • Serve as a key member of the Regional Command Team

  • Act on behalf of the Regional Fire Chief when required

  • Assist in developing departmental goals, policies, and long-term strategies

  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and safety-focused fire service culture


Emergency Operations & Incident Command

The Regional Deputy Fire Chief ensures operational excellence through:

  • Maintaining regional emergency response readiness

  • Performing Incident Command and Command Staff functions using Saskatchewan-adopted ICS

  • Coordinating mutual aid and interoperability with SPSA and allied agencies

  • Ensuring compliance with provincial legislation, OH&S requirements, and NFPA standards

  • Participating in emergency responses, including on-call and after-hours duties

Emergency Management & Municipal Preparedness

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting compliance with The Emergency Planning Act

  • Serving as or supporting the Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC)

  • Developing, testing, and activating Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and Emergency Operations Plans (EOP)

  • Participating in Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activations

  • Acting as liaison with SPSA, municipal leaders, and partner agencies


Administration, Training & Asset Management

Administration & Management

  • Oversee payroll support, fire reporting, training records, and documentation

  • Ensure timely completion of incident and regulatory reports

  • Support budgeting, resource allocation, and cost-effective operations

Training & Professional Development

  • Coordinate and participate in volunteer firefighter training programs

  • Ensure compliance with mandatory certifications

  • Promote continuous professional development

Facilities & Equipment

  • Oversee inspection, maintenance, and readiness of apparatus and facilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety and maintenance standards


Community Engagement & Public Education

The Regional Deputy Fire Chief represents the organization through:

  • Fire prevention and public education initiatives

  • Community risk reduction programs

  • Professional engagement with municipal partners and stakeholders


Required Qualifications

Education & Certifications (Minimum)

  • NFPA 1001 – Firefighter Level II

  • NFPA 472 / 1072 – Hazardous Materials Operations

  • NFPA 1041 – Fire Instructor Level I

  • Auto Extrication Certification

  • ICS 200 (ICS 300 considered an asset)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive fire service experience

  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience

  • Strong operational knowledge of emergency response and incident management

Skills & Competencies

  • Leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills

  • Sound judgment and decision-making under pressure

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Ability to work independently while supporting organizational objectives


Assets (Considered an Advantage)

  • NFPA 1021 – Fire Officer Level I or II

  • ICS 300 / ICS 400

  • Regional or volunteer fire service leadership experience

  • Emergency management or municipal governance experience


Hours of Work

  • 40 hours per week

  • Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and emergency response
