Airport Firefighter Jobs Ottawa are now open at Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW). The Ottawa International Airport Authority is seeking highly trained, safety-focused firefighters to support aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF), emergency medical response, and fire suppression operations in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).

Airport Firefighter Jobs Ottawa

As part of the Airport Fire Service team, you will:

  • Respond to aircraft and airport emergencies in compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs)

  • Develop and support tactical fire and rescue operations

  • Preserve life, property, and the environment during emergency incidents

  • Prevent, extinguish, and control fires and protect exposures

  • Perform advanced first aid, CPR, and defibrillation

  • Participate in fire suppression, salvage, and overhaul operations

  • Conduct research on evolving firefighting technologies and procedures

  • Support airport community education and public relations initiatives


Essential Qualifications

Education & Certifications

Applicants for Airport Firefighter Jobs Ottawa must possess:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent

  • NFPA 1001 Level I & II

  • NFPA 1072 (472) – Hazardous Materials Operations

  • Standard First Aid and CPR-HCP / BLS

  • Valid IFSAC or Pro Board certification

Experience & Skills

  • Commitment to professional development and ongoing training

  • Strong situational awareness and decision-making skills

  • Mechanical aptitude and technical proficiency

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Computer and reporting skills for training and incident documentation

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, high-pressure environment


Assets (Considered an Advantage)

  • NFPA 1002, 1003, 1021 Level I, or 1041 certifications

  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification

  • Airport firefighting or ARFF experience

  • Community service or volunteer involvement

  • Current live fire certification per CARs

  • Bilingualism (English and French)


Salary & Employment Details

  • Annual Salary: $117,254 (per current Collective Agreement)

  • Probationary Pay Progression:

    • 70% – first 6 months

    • 80% – next 6 months

    • 90% – following 12 months

Job Requirements

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Physically fit and capable of emergency response duties

  • Successful completion of CPAT

  • Valid Ontario Class DZ or Class 3 driver’s license

  • Recent driver’s abstract (within 30 days)

  • Ability to obtain RAIC security clearance

  • Obtain within 90 days of hire:

    • AVOP-D permit

    • Restricted Radio Operator’s Certificate
