Position Overview
The City of Dawson Creek is seeking motivated, resilient, and community-minded individuals to join Dawson Creek Fire Rescue as a Firefighter (6-Month Term). What It Takes to Be a Dawson Creek Firefighter
Firefighters must be prepared for:

Required Qualifications
-
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
-
NFPA 1001 Firefighter II (Pro Board or IFSAC accredited)
-
BC EMA First Responder, EMR, or PCP (or equivalent)
-
Valid BC Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement (or equivalent)
-
Ability to successfully pass a Police Information Check
-
Legal entitlement to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident)
Desired Qualifications

NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Technician
-
NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator
-
NFPA 1006 Technical Rescue (Operations level in vehicle, confined space, and rope rescue)

ICS 100 – Incident Command System

SPP-WFF1 Wildland Firefighter Level 1
-
SPP-115 Structure Protection
-
Post-secondary education (academic, technical, or trades)
-
Volunteer emergency services experience (fire, SAR, coast guard)

Demonstrated community involvement
Selection Process
1️⃣ Written Examination
-
Timed general knowledge exam
-
One attempt only
-
Results provided within 2 hours
2️⃣ Physical Fitness & Agility Testing
Candidates must complete testing while wearing full PPE (approx. 22 kg / 50 lb) including SCBA.
Agility Test (Pass/Fail):

Climb a 75-foot aerial ladder at 70°
-
Navigate a confined space with a blacked-out mask
Physical Fitness Test (Timed):
-
Stair climb carrying 70 lbs
-
Hose hoist (35 lbs, 27 ft)
-
Ladder removal and replacement
-
Hose drag (150 ft)
-
Tire strike (dead blow hammer)
-
Rescue mannequin drag (150 lbs, 50 ft)
Failure of any component results in elimination.
