Position Summary

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief and guidance of the Captain, the Firefighter is responsible for:

  • Combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires

  • Rescuing and protecting life and property

  • Performing emergency response under hazardous conditions

  • Assisting with fire prevention activities and community public education

Firefighters are expected to maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork while performing emergency operations safely and efficiently.


Selection Process

The Town of Innisfil ensures fairness and equity in its firefighter recruitment process. Applicants move through seven steps:

  1. Pre-registration with Firefighter Services of Ontario (Deadline: Jan 2, 2026)

  2. Applicant Assessment – Complete all 7 FSO pre-employment tests (Clinical, CPAT, Tread Water, CPS Aptitude, Medical, Acrophobia, Emotional Stability & Resiliency)

  3. Application Submission – Cover letter, resume, and proof of qualifications to FSO (Deadline: Feb 7, 2026)

  4. Interview Process – Situational and behavioral interviews with Innisfil Fire & Rescue Management

  5. Background Screening – Includes education, criminal record, vulnerable sector, medical, and social media checks

  6. Job Offer – Conditional on background and medical clearance

  7. Start Date / Onboarding – Training and orientation with a 12-month probationary period (Anticipated start: March 2026)


Mandatory & Preferred Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • High school diploma or relevant post-secondary education

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II and NFPA 1072 certification

  • Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (asset)

  • Valid Ontario Class DZ Driver’s License and clean abstract

  • Completion of all 7 FSO assessments

  • Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays

  • Police clearance and vulnerable sector check

Preferred:

  • Firefighter experience (career or volunteer)

  • Registered nurse or paramedic

  • Trade certification or Pre-Service Firefighter Training diploma

  • Fire prevention, inspection, or public education experience
