The City of Pickering is hiring dedicated and motivated Probationary Firefighters to join our Fire Services team. This role provides an exciting career in fire suppression, emergency medical response, rescue operations, and public safety education.

Key Responsibilities:
-
Respond to emergency incidents including fires, rescues, and medical emergencies
-
Perform fire suppression, salvage, and overhaul operations following Standard Operating Guidelines
-
Conduct specialized rescues: auto extrication, rope rescue, water & ice rescue
-
Deliver emergency medical care per industry standards

Engage in public education, fire prevention programs, and pre-incident planning

Maintain fire station, apparatus, and equipment, ensuring safety and readiness

Participate in ongoing training, certifications, and drills
Qualifications & Requirements:
-
Completion of a Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training Program (recognized college or equivalent experience)

NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II (IFSAC or Pro Board certified)

Valid Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI) Candidate Testing Service Stage One, Two, and Three certifications, including Swim Test

Medically and physically fit for demanding work in potentially hazardous conditions

Valid Class D Ontario Driver’s Licence with Z endorsement

Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification; willingness to complete Emergency Medical Responder training

Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills

Ability to work 24-hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays

Criminal Reference Check required
Preferred Assets:

Emergency services experience

Knowledge of municipal streets, hydrants, and buildings

Computer literacy and proficiency in Windows-based applications

Mechanical aptitude and experience operating hand and hydraulic tools
