Toronto Fire Services, Canada’s largest and busiest municipal fire department, is now accepting applications for full-time Firefighter Operations positions. This 2026 firefighter recruitment is open from December 8 to January 5, 2026, offering a rewarding opportunity to serve and protect communities across the City of Toronto.
About the Position
Toronto Firefighters respond to a wide range of emergencies including fires, medical calls, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and life-safety situations. This is a permanent, full-time career working 42 hours per week with an hourly rate of $34.09 (2024 rate), affiliated with L3888 Firefighters.
Key Responsibilities
Firefighters with Toronto Fire Services will:

Respond quickly to fire, medical, rescue, and emergency incidents

Perform firefighting duties, search and rescue, forcible entry, ventilation, ladder operations, and property conservation
-
Provide emergency medical care and support at incident scenes
-
Operate and maintain fire apparatus, tools, hoses, ladders, pumps, and rescue equipment
-
Conduct fire safety inspections and participate in public education
-
Maintain fire station equipment, vehicles, and facilities
-
Participate in ongoing training, pre-incident planning, and fire prevention activities
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements before applying:

18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada
-
Valid Ontario Class D driver’s licence with Z endorsement
-
Current OFAI CTS certificates (Stages 1, 2, and 3) valid by January 5, 2026
-
NFPA 1001 Level I & II (IFSAC or ProBoard accredited institution)
-
NEW for 2025: Valid Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification
-
Ability to meet fitness, water survival, psychological, and physical demands
-
Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check
