Purpose of the Position

The Experienced Firefighter/Paramedic in Brandon will:

  • Respond to emergency calls, including fires, rescues, and medical emergencies

  • Provide primary care at the PCP level or higher, in accordance with Manitoba Health Guidelines

  • Participate in Community Paramedicine programs for Brandon residents

  • Deliver public education, fire prevention, and non-emergency services

  • Maintain and operate emergency vehicles, equipment, and protective gear

This position requires integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to public service.


Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to fire alarms and perform firefighting duties including search and rescue, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul

  • Attend emergency medical calls and provide assessment and care

  • Provide medical services within the Brandon Police Services Detention Unit

  • Log emergency and business calls, dispatch personnel and equipment as required

  • Participate in ongoing in-house and external training to maintain certifications

  • Maintain records, reports, and forms related to emergency services

  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance of facilities, vehicles, and equipment

  • Conduct public fire education and fire prevention programs

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors


Mandatory Qualifications & Experience

  • Permanent Resident legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Serving Firefighter/Paramedic with a recognized paramedic service

  • Valid Class 4 Province of Manitoba driver’s license (or equivalent) with acceptable driving record

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child & Adult Abuse Registry Check

  • Meets vision, hearing, and training standards set by BFES

  • Discipline record acceptable to Brandon Fire and Emergency Services


Work Conditions

  • Collaborative, team-oriented environment

  • Work in confined spaces, heights, hazardous environments, and varying weather conditions

  • Shift work, overtime, and call-outs may be required

  • Responsible to the Captain or designated supervisor
