The Opportunity
Reporting to the Fire Captain and the Director, Airfield Services, the Firefighter is primarily responsible for the delivery of Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) operations, emergency first aid response, and other airport safety-related services. The position is a 1-year term, with opportunity to become full-time.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide a fire-free egress for passengers and crew in the event of an aircraft emergency;
- Provide emergency first aid response;
- Initiate fire suppression activities, and assist stakeholders with evacuation and rescue duties;
- Deliver airport safety-related services, including but not limited to: wildlife hazard management, and safety hazard monitoring, reporting, investigation, and mitigation;
- Support the development and execution of safety programs;
- Maintenance, repair, and maintain inventory of related equipment and supplies; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria include:
- Post-secondary education in a related field;
- Class 3 Driver’s license with air brake endorsement, or the ability to obtain them within 90 days of hire;
- Driver’s abstract demonstrating a responsible and safe driving record;
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively to meet shared objectives;
- Strong computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Maintain a high level of physical fitness and complete a medical assessment;
- Ability to obtain a D-Airport Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP) and restricted radio/telephone license (ROC-A);
- NFPA 1001 Level 1 and Level 2 and NFPA 1003 training an asset;
- Hazardous Materials training an asset;
- ICS 100 training an asset;
- Airport-related experience is considered an asset; and,
- Ability to work shift work in a 24/7 environment.
