The Corporation of the City of Timmins is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter.
The City of Timmins, population 41,788 (2016 Census), is centrally located in Northeastern Ontario and is recognized as a
regional hub for shopping, culture commerce, health and education. In addition to offering modern amenities such as a
regional hospital, superior telecommunications infrastructure and an airport that supports both scheduled daily flights and
private carriers, a vast area of rugged wilderness is available minutes from the City’s residential areas. Over 500 lakes,
rivers and streams are accessible by road, or through a network of ATV or snowmobile trails, all within City limits.
The Timmins Fire Department is a progressive composite department which comprises of one (1) Composite Fire Station
which includes suppression, prevention and training division as well as five (5) Volunteer Fire Stations and an airport fire
hall.

The Firefighter is primarily responsible for operational preparedness and emergency response. The Firefighter is
responsible for the safe, effective and efficient employment of tactics and tasks at emergency incidents at the direction of
an Officer.The Firefighter is also responsible for developing pre-plans, conducting inspections, and delivering fire prevention
education programs.

Your role will include:

• Perform Fire and Life Safety Inspection and Public Education Activities
• Perform Pre-Planning information collection
• Perform Fire Suppression and Rescue Operations
• Perform hazardous materials and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Operations
• Provide emergency patient care
• Perform firefighter safety practices
• Operate and maintain fire apparatus and equipment
• Perform administrative duties
• Demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional development
• Other duties as assigned

We invite candidates who have following basic qualifications:

• Be not less than 18 years of age
• Secondary school Graduation Diploma or equivalent as approved by the Ministry of Education
• Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License – Class DZ or AZ
• Clear Driver’s License Abstract; with no more than (6) demerit points
• Clear and Current Criminal Record Check and Judicial Matters Check
• Physically and medically fit for firefighting duties
• IFSAC OR PROBOARD CERTIFICATION NFPA 1001: Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, Level 1;
or Timmins Fire Department approval letter or equivalency
• Proof of current Canadian Red Cross First Responder (equivalent)
• Bilingualism is a definite asset

Employment Condition:

Successful candidate(s) that do not have the IFSAC OR PROBOARD CERTIFICATION NFPA 1001 LEVEL 2 will be
required to get the certification before the end of the probationary period in order to maintain employment.
