2023 Firefighter Recruitment Competition

The 2023 Firefighter Recruitment Competition is open January 26 to February 16, 2023. The Victoria Fire Department conducts one firefighter recruitment competition every two to three years to establish a Firefighter Eligibility Pool. The number of firefighters hired from the Pool may differ each year as the number of vacancies available is based on attrition due to retirements and staff turnover.

Applicants are asked to upload ONE document as a single PDF that contains all of the following:

• Cover Letter
• Resume
• Copies of the following qualifications:
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter 1 and 2
  • Advanced medical or first aid training (FR, EMR, PCP/ACP, EMT)
  • Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status
  • Proof of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Valid British Columbia Class 3 Drivers Licence with Air Brake Endorsement or equivalent
  • Driver’s Abstract reflective of a safe and responsible driving history
  • Victoria Fire Department Recruit Firefighter Self-Evaluation Questionnaire

*Prior to entering the hiring pool, candidates must possess a UVic or University of Alberta Physical Fitness Certificate dated August 1, 2022 or more recent. Certificate does not need to be included in your application.
