The City of Winnipeg is recruiting to establish a 12-month eligibility list for up to 80–100 Firefighter and Firefighter Paramedic (PCP) positions with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS). Successful applicants will be hired into the Resource Pool, with opportunities to move into full-time positions by seniority as vacancies arise.

About the Resource Pool

Resource Pool members are called in to fill temporary and short-term vacancies across WFPS operations.

This recruitment is the only pathway to future full-time Firefighter and Firefighter PCP appointments during the eligibility period.

Shift Structure

  • 10-hour days (08:00 start)

  • 14-hour nights (18:00 start)

  • Minimum 2 shifts / Maximum 6 shifts per week

Salary (Effective Dec 31, 2025)

  • Firefighter: $66,836 – $111,393 annually

  • Firefighter Paramedic (PCP): $71,292 – $118,077 annually

Position Overview

Firefighters protect life and property through fire suppression, emergency medical response, rescue operations, and public safety initiatives. Firefighter Paramedic (PCP) members additionally provide advanced pre-hospital medical care in accordance with provincial standards and medical protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fire suppression and emergency response

  • Medical response, rescue, and extrication

  • Operation and maintenance of firefighting and EMS equipment

  • Public education and fire prevention programs

  • Completion of reports and documentation

  • Station, vehicle, and equipment maintenance

Required Qualifications

Firefighter

  • Advanced or Industrial First Aid or EMR (80–120 hours)

Firefighter Paramedic (PCP)

  • Accredited Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) diploma

  • Valid College of Paramedics PCP license (Manitoba or transferable)

All Applicants

  • NFPA 1001 Level I & II (IFSAC or Pro Board)

  • Current BLS or CPR-C

  • Valid Manitoba Class 4 driver’s licence with air brakes (Class 3 asset)

  • Ability to meet WFPS medical, vision, hearing, fitness, and immunization standards

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
